That psychological and educational tests have been sharply criticized is
amply documented by the number of articles and lawsuits that concern test
validity. Although the test publishers point to correlations of tests with
socially important criteria to support their own tests, the critics are con-
cerned more directly with the skills, knowledge, and processes that are in-
volved in solving the test items.
